Promotion of Doctor of Science and Arts 2025.
Dr. Paula Štancl was among 304 graduates honored at the University of Zagreb’s 2025 Doctor of Science and Arts promotion ceremony. Her PhD research focused on optimizing tumor cell-of-origin prediction through genomic analysis.

34th PhD café
PhD student Doris Repušić presented her research on genetic factors influencing COVID-19 severity at the 34th PhD Café, a public science event promoting young Croatian researchers.
DAY AND NIGHT ON PMF
Day and Night at PMF is one of the largest science popularization events in Croatia. It was established in 2016 by uniting traditional, standalone events held by all seven departments of the Faculty of Science (PMF): Biology Night, Physics Today, Live Geophysics, Geography Open Day, Geology Open Day, Chemistry Open Day, and Mathematics Open Day.
As part of Day and Night at PMF, members of the Bioinformatics Group have been actively participating for many years, contributing to event organization as well as leading and conducting workshops.

Day and Night at PMF 2024: Thermoprotein Lab
The topic of the workshop was heat so we explored heat shock proteins (HSPs), tiny heroes that help protect our cells from heat stress.

Day and Night at PMF 2023: “Find me!” shouted the malignant cell
Tumor cells are hard to detect because they are few, small, and hidden among healthy cells. In the workshop, participants used single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze gene activity and identify whether cells came from mutated brain or bone tumors.

Day and Night at PMF 2019: What does taste look like?
Bioinformatic groups participated in Day and Night at PMF 2019, where they presented how genetic differences influence taste perception through a hands-on PTC tasting experiment. Participants identified their genetic group by testing their own taste buds and learning about receptors and signaling pathways.
